Congress leader Shashi Tharoor raised concerns about possible interference from Pakistan and China amid the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh. Tharoor noted that while the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus is not a direct threat to India, there are fears that Pakistan’s ISI might exploit the situation and China could seek to increase its influence.
Tharoor, who knows Yunus personally, praised him as a respected figure aligned with Western interests. He also lauded India’s decision to shelter ousted Bangladeshi leader Sheikh Hasina, calling it a sign of friendship.
Tharoor condemned recent attacks on Indian cultural sites and Hindu temples in Bangladesh, attributing them to anti-India vandals, but also acknowledged the protection provided by some local Muslims to minority communities.
