On International Coastal Cleanup Day, over 1,850 young volunteers from Bharat Soka Gakkai (BSG) and Swachha Vasundhara Abhiyaan gathered at Carter Road Beach to protect Mumbai’s crucial mangrove ecosystems. This initiative emphasized the vital role of mangroves in combating climate change and preserving biodiversity, as these “coastal superheroes” face threats from pollution and deforestation.
The event highlighted the commitment of young participants to sustainable practices, demonstrating that individual actions can significantly impact the environment. Renowned Bollywood choreographer Mr. Terence Lewis encouraged volunteers to actively care for the planet, noting the urgent need to address single-use plastics.
Ms. Poonam Soni, founder of Poonam Soni Signature Line, praised the volunteers’ efforts, stating, “Through this initiative, we are securing our future and our environment.”
Mr. Vishesh Gupta, Chairperson of BSG, emphasized that sustainable human behavior begins with respect for nature, urging participants to reset their relationship with the environment. The drive was a resounding success, not only in cleaning up marine debris but also in inspiring a movement for a cleaner, healthier planet, fostering a sense of environmental responsibility among the youth.
