Parts of Gujarat, including Vadodara, have been severely affected by waterlogging following continuous rain over the past few days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Vadodara recorded 26 cm of rainfall from Monday to Tuesday, with other regions like Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Bhuj, and Naliya also receiving significant rainfall.
The Vishwamitri River in Vadodara has overflowed, causing extensive waterlogging in residential areas. Residents have reported knee-deep water and disrupted traffic. The situation was exacerbated by the release of water from Ajwa and Pratappura Reservoirs into the Vishwamitri River.
Three people have died in the last 24 hours due to the flooding. The Kashi Vishwanath Mahadev Temple in Vadodara was submerged and closed, and local residents are struggling with shortages of food and displacement from their homes.
In Gandhinagar, vehicle number plates were scattered at Mahatma Mandir Underbridge after waters receded, highlighting the extent of the waterlogging. The situation remains critical as recovery efforts continue.
