India is set to host the first BIMSTEC Business Summit from August 6-8 in New Delhi. Organized by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), the three-day summit aims to strengthen regional trade and investment ties among member nations.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will inaugurate the event, with Union Minister of Commerce and Industries Piyush Goyal and other prominent leaders delivering keynote addresses, according to an MEA press release.
The summit will feature participation from Ministers of Trade, Commerce, Industry, and Energy from BIMSTEC member states, along with high-ranking government officials, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and industry representatives. The event will gather over 300 key stakeholders from the Bay of Bengal region.
“The first edition of the Business Summit seeks to enhance regional collaboration through robust trade and investment relations among BIMSTEC countries,” the MEA stated. The summit will focus on key areas such as trade facilitation, regional connectivity, energy security, inclusive growth, and sustainable development.
BIMSTEC, which includes five South Asian countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India, and Sri Lanka) and two Southeast Asian nations (Myanmar and Thailand), is a priority for India, underscoring its commitment to regional cooperation and economic integration.
