The recruitment process for excise constables in Jharkhand has been marred by tragedy, with 11 candidates dying during physical tests and many others falling ill. The tests, which began on August 22, have sparked serious concerns about the safety and conditions of the process.
BJP state president Babulal Marandi criticized the government for substituting job opportunities with fatalities, while the Jharkhand Police Headquarters and the state government have implemented emergency measures. New guidelines include providing drinking water stations and deploying medical teams at selection centers.
Initial investigations point to extreme heat, stimulant use, and inadequate facilities as potential factors contributing to the candidates’ deaths. An unnatural death case has been filed, and authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the exact causes.
Police spokesperson Amol V Homkar reported that out of 127,772 candidates, 78,023 were successful. The BJP youth wing has protested against the JMM-led government, alleging mismanagement. At the same time, JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey urged against politicizing the issue and assured that the government is committed to resolving the crisis and supporting the affected families.
