On June 20, 2024, the India-European Union Trade and Technology Council (TTC) Working Group 2 organized a dynamic startup matchmaking event to advance battery recycling technologies for electric vehicles. This event showcased twelve top-tier solution providers, precisely chosen by an independent panel of experts based on rigorous criteria, including scientific innovation, market viability, and the potential for collaborative efforts between India and the EU.

Startups from India, including Lohum, LW3 Pvt Ltd., and BatX Energies, joined forces with EU-based companies like Alterity and Ecomet Refining to present their pioneering technologies at the event. These companies showcased their innovative approaches across various stages of the battery recycling value chain.

Key representatives, including Ambassadors H.E. Mr. Saurabh Kumar and H.E. Mr. Herve Delphin, along with notable figures such as Professor Ajay Kumar Sood and Mr. Marc Lemaitre, highlighted the crucial role of fostering innovation and collaboration in green technologies. They emphasized the importance of these efforts, especially in the rapidly growing electric vehicle industry.

Mr. Marc Lemaitre highlighted the crucial environmental advantages of developing advanced battery recycling technologies. He also stressed how the event plays a pivotal role in strengthening innovation partnerships between the EU and India, particularly under the framework of the Trade and Technology Council.

Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood presented the event as an important opportunity for sharing knowledge and exploring investment prospects. He also revealed plans for upcoming exchange visits, where selected startups will have the chance to tour electric vehicle battery recycling facilities in both regions. At the end of the event, they announced that in the next stage, three startups from each region will be selected to travel and connect with key stakeholders in both the EU and India. This initiative aims to foster potential collaborations and provide valuable market insights.
