Instagram has launched its new Teen Accounts feature to create a safer, more customized online environment for teenagers. This updated experience includes built-in protections that limit interactions with unknown users and restrict access to sensitive content.
For users under 16, parental permission is needed to modify account settings, enhancing parental control over their child’s online presence. Default settings include automatic private accounts, messaging restrictions, and limitations on sensitive content, ensuring a secure experience from the start.
Additional features include reminders for time limits, a sleep mode to encourage healthier usage habits, and restricted interactions. Parents can approve changes, review chat history, set daily time limits, and block access during specific hours, promoting responsible digital behavior.
Experts have praised this initiative for addressing parental concerns and fostering age-appropriate experiences for teenagers. Instagram plans to roll out Teen Accounts in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and the European Union within the next 60 days, with a global expansion expected by January.
This move underscores Meta’s commitment to enhancing online safety and empowering parents to effectively manage their teens’ digital experiences, ensuring the platform remains a positive space for young users.
