Google has addressed recent speculation about its Fitbit product lines following the launch of the Pixel Watch. Reports suggested that Fitbit’s Versa and Sense models might be discontinued in favor of Google’s Pixel Watch. However, Google has clarified its stance to ArsTechnica, affirming its commitment to Fitbit and its customer base.
A Google spokesperson stated that Fitbit will continue to produce and innovate new products, despite recent reports. The company recently introduced the Fitbit Ace, a smartwatch designed for children, reinforcing its ongoing investment in the Fitbit brand. While the company did not specify details on future Versa or Sense models, it confirmed these lines have not been discontinued.
TechRadar and Engadget previously reported that Google might shift Fitbit’s focus to more minimalistic fitness trackers, leaving the smartwatch category to the Pixel Watch. This follows changes to existing Fitbit devices, including the removal of some features like music control and the transition from Fitbit accounts to Google accounts.
Despite these adjustments, Google’s Pixel Watch line has integrated Fitbit features, such as the Daily Readiness Score, available on the latest Pixel Watch 3 at no extra cost. This move highlights Google’s effort to blend Fitbit’s fitness tracking expertise with its smartwatch offerings.
