India’s Simran Sharma has qualified for the women’s 100m-T12 final at the Paris Paralympics, held at the Stade de France on September 5, 2024. Sharma, the reigning world champion, finished second in semifinal 2 with a time of 12.33 seconds. Her guide accompanied her, Abhay Singh.
German athlete Katrin Mueller-Rottgardt won semifinal 2 with a time of 12.26 seconds. Omara Durand of Cuba topped the first semifinal with 12.01 seconds, while Oksana Boturchuk of Ukraine secured the final spot with 12.36 seconds.
Born prematurely and diagnosed with visual impairment shortly after birth, Sharma has overcome significant challenges to achieve her success. Coached by her husband Gajendra Singh, Sharma trains at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. She recently clinched gold in the T12 200m at the World Para Athletics Championships and has consistently performed well in national and international competitions.
