India’s women’s archery team has had a strong start at the Paris Olympics, securing a place in the quarterfinals. Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhagat, and Bhajan Kaur combined to score 1,983 points, placing them fourth overall.

Ankita Bhakat made a notable debut, finishing 11th in the individual ranking round with a score of 666 out of 720 points from 72 shots. In contrast, Deepika Kumari ranked 23rd and Bhajan Kaur 22nd, scoring below the top 20. Bhajan Kaur achieved 659 points, closely followed by Deepika Kumari with 658 points.

With their fourth-place finish in the ranking round, the Indian women’s team earned direct entry into the quarterfinals. The top three teams—Korea, China, and Mexico—also advanced directly to the quarterfinals.

India’s next match in the Women’s Team event on July 28 will be against the winner of the France vs. Netherlands match. Medal matches are scheduled for the same day. If India advances past the quarterfinals, they will face the formidable South Korean team in the semifinals.

It’s noteworthy that South Korea has a remarkable history in the Women’s Team event, having won nine consecutive Olympic gold medals. Today, they set a new Olympic record with 2046 points.
