The Atal Setu, India’s longest sea bridge, has achieved a significant milestone with over 5 million vehicles using it within just seven months of its opening. The 22-km Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, officially named Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri–Nhava Sheva Atal Setu, connects Mumbai with Navi Mumbai and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 12.
Since its opening to the public on January 13, the bridge has seen 5,004,350 vehicles, including buses from BEST, NMMT, and MSRTC. This includes 4.7 million cars, 50,020 mini buses, and 503 oversized vehicles. The bridge has notably improved connectivity between South Mumbai and several key areas, including the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) highlighted that the bridge has eased congestion and reduced travel times between South Mumbai and regions such as Panvel, Pune, and Navi Mumbai. Additionally, ongoing infrastructure developments, including the Worli-Sewri elevated road and the elevated road between Chirle Interchange and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, are expected to further enhance connectivity and commute times.
