Aman Sehrawat faced a daunting challenge after his semi-final defeat at the Olympics, needing to shed 4.5 kilograms in just 10 hours to qualify for the bronze medal bout. After losing to Japan’s Rei Higuchi on Thursday, Sehrawat and his coaches, Jagmander Singh and Virender Dahiya, embarked on a rigorous weight-cutting regimen.
The intense process included a mat session, hot baths, treadmill runs, sauna sessions, and light jogging. By early Friday morning, Sehrawat managed to reduce his weight to 56.9 kg, just 100 grams below the limit.
The weight cut was critical, especially after a similar situation had cost wrestler Vinesh Phogat a medal. Sehrawat’s perseverance paid off as he won the bronze medal by defeating Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz. This victory makes him India’s youngest Olympic medallist.
