A migrant worker from West Bengal, Sabir Malik, was allegedly beaten to death by members of a cow vigilante group in Haryana’s Charkhi Dadri district on August 27. The group, suspecting Malik of consuming beef, lured him under the pretext of selling plastic bottles before assaulting him. After an initial attack, the accused, including five individuals—Abhishek, Mohit, Ravinder, Kamaljit, and Sahil—took Malik to another location and continued the beating, leading to his death.
Police have arrested the five suspects, two of whom are minors. A case has been filed under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Haryana has seen an increase in lynchings and mob violence linked to cow vigilante groups over the past decade. This incident follows a similar case in 2023 where two men from Rajasthan were abducted and burnt to death in Haryana, causing nationwide outrage.
