Lie detection tests for the main accused and six others in the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital commenced on Saturday.
Sanjay Roy, the main accused, is undergoing a polygraph test in prison, while former principal Sandip Ghosh, four doctors, and a civic volunteer are being tested at the CBI’s office in Salt Lake. Ghosh was seen arriving at the CBI’s office for the ninth consecutive day before the test.
The investigation has also involved two first-year postgraduate trainees whose fingerprints were found at the crime scene. A team of polygraph specialists from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi has been dispatched to Kolkata for the tests.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reported to the Supreme Court on Thursday that local police had attempted to cover up the crime by altering the scene before the CBI took over. The trainee doctor’s body, discovered with severe injuries on August 9, led to Roy’s arrest the following day. On August 13, the Calcutta High Court transferred the investigation from Kolkata Police to the CBI, which began its probe on August 14.
