Rampratap Sharma, Joint Director of Education for the Agra division, was detained by the Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Department on Sunday. The arrest follows allegations of Sharma accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh.
The complaint was filed by Ajay Pal Singh, an assistant teacher at DC Vedic Inter College. Singh alleged that Sharma demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakh to issue a favorable report regarding his appointment. Singh claimed that Sharma used the term “bring sweets” as a covert signal for the bribe.
According to Singh, despite receiving clearance from the then-BSA, Sharma halted the process and requested the bribe through his stenographer. Singh has provided recorded evidence of these conversations.
Following Singh’s complaint, the Vigilance Department monitored Sharma’s communications. Sharma was arrested when Singh attempted to deliver the first installment of Rs 3 lakh. Sharma is scheduled to be presented in Meerut court on Monday and is expected to be remanded in custody. The investigation into the bribery case is ongoing.
