On Tuesday, Swedish furniture retailer Ikea announced the launch of a same-day delivery pilot in Hyderabad, with plans to expand this service across all its markets over the next year. In a move towards sustainability, Ikea has achieved 100% electric vehicle (EV) deliveries in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune, reflecting its commitment to a greener supply chain.
The company is also working towards reaching a carbon-neutral delivery operation in Mumbai within a few months. As part of its sustainability strategy, Ikea will adopt an EV-first approach for new markets, including the upcoming Delhi-NCR store.
Currently, Ikea operates stores in Hyderabad, Navi Mumbai, Bengaluru, and two locations in Mumbai. Since 2019, Ikea has been transitioning to an all-electric delivery fleet, starting with tuk-tuks and later incorporating retrofit trucks and EV charging infrastructure to handle larger furniture deliveries.
Ikea India CEO Susanne Pulverer emphasized, “A sustainable value chain is crucial to our growth. This milestone is just the beginning, and we are committed to proving that profit and planet can be balanced.”
