Google has launched a new AI feature, Gmail Q&A, for its Android app, allowing users to search their inbox using artificial intelligence. Announced on Thursday, this feature, powered by Gemini, enables Gmail users to prompt the AI to locate specific information within their emails. Previously available on the web, it will soon be accessible on iOS as well.
The Gmail Q&A feature appears in the Gemini tool at the top-right of the Gmail app. Users must be signed into their Google Workspace account to access it. This AI-driven tool can search for unread messages, emails from specific senders, and summarize email content. Users can tap the black Gemini star or use the “summarize this email” chip to interact with the feature.
Future updates will extend Gmail Q&A’s capabilities to search for information within Google Drive files and documents. The feature will roll out to all Workspace users over the next 15 days, but only those subscribed to Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, Education Premium, or Google One AI Premium will have access.
In addition to Gmail Q&A, Google has introduced Gemini extensions for Google Keep and Google Tasks, available to Workspace users with Pixel 9 series smartphones. These extensions allow direct access to the apps through the Gemini interface using text prompts.
