President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated a two-day conference of Governors at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi on Friday. During her opening remarks, President Murmu highlighted that the conference’s agenda was designed to address critical issues essential for achieving national objectives. She expressed optimism that the discussions would provide valuable insights and enhance the effectiveness of the participants in their roles.
In addition to the President’s address, Union Home Minister Amit Shah encouraged the Governors to engage directly with villages and districts to build public trust and confidence.
President Murmu emphasized that the recent implementation of three new laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam—marks the beginning of a new era in the Indian justice system. She noted that these laws reflect a significant shift in the country’s legal framework.
Addressing the importance of democratic functioning, President Murmu stressed the need for improved coordination among central agencies and state governments. She urged the Governors to consider ways they can foster better collaboration in their roles as constitutional heads of their respective states.
On the topic of education, the President acknowledged the pivotal role of quality higher education in driving individual growth, social change, innovation, and economic progress. She highlighted the National Education Policy’s focus on enhancing the Accreditation and Assessment system of educational institutions and urged the Governors, as chancellors of state universities, to contribute actively to this reform process.
Finally, President Murmu reaffirmed the Indian government’s commitment to prioritizing the development of marginalized and underserved communities, including those in tribal and Scheduled areas. She called on the Governors to propose strategies for achieving inclusive development and addressing the needs of these regions.
