In a disturbing incident at Srirangam Boys Higher Secondary School in Tamil Nadu’s Trichy, a teacher and a student were injured after being attacked by a fellow student on Monday afternoon.
The attacker, identified as a Class 12 student from the science stream who had been recently suspended, allegedly entered a classroom around 3:30 p.m. and launched a violent attack with a knife. The target was a student, who was reportedly involved in a recent dispute with the assailant. The situation escalated when the attacker turned his aggression towards Shivakumar, a commerce teacher, striking him on the head.
Both the teacher and the student were promptly taken to Srirangam Government Hospital for treatment. According to Shivakumar, the attacker was not in his school uniform and wore a mask to conceal his identity. “There had been ongoing issues between the science and arts stream students, though I was not fully aware of the extent,” Shivakumar recounted. “When I inquired about the boy’s intentions, he identified the student by name, pulled out a knife, and attacked him. He then turned his aggression towards me, likely anticipating that I would try to intervene.”
The police have filed a case and launched a manhunt for the attacker, who remains at large. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the motives behind the attack and the circumstances leading up to it.
