Teej 2024: Easy Snacks You Can Easily Prepare at Home

In India and Nepal, Teej marks the vibrant onset of the monsoon season, a time of celebration filled with feasting, fasting, and festivities with loved ones. Essential to the holiday are traditional foods that not only please the palate but also add a special touch to the celebrations. Here are some simple yet delightful snacks to make for Teej 2024:

Ghewar

A quintessential Rajasthani delicacy, ghewar is a disc-shaped sweet made from wheat flour, ghee, and sugar syrup, often adorned with almond shards. Though it may seem challenging, making ghewar at home is achievable with practice. Prepare the batter by mixing flour, ghee, and water, then deep-fry it in ghee until it achieves a net-like texture. After frying, dip the ghewar in sugar syrup and garnish with nuts.

Besan Ladoo

Besan ladoos are a classic and easy-to-make treat made from sugar, ghee, and gram flour. Roast the gram flour in ghee until it turns golden brown and develops a nutty aroma. Mix in cardamom powder and sugar, then roll the mixture into small balls. These ladoos are a favorite among both children and adults for their simplicity and rich flavor.

Samosa

Samosas are a staple in Indian cuisine and make for a perfect Teej snack. These crispy pastries are filled with a spicy potato and pea mixture. Prepare the dough using flour, oil, and water, then fill it with a seasoned blend of peas and boiled potatoes. Fry until golden brown and serve hot with mint chutney.

Kachori

Kachoris are another tasty treat ideal for Teej. These deep-fried pastries are filled with a spicy lentil mixture. To make the filling, grind soaked lentils with spices, and encase the mixture in a dough made from wheat flour and water. Fry the kachoris until they are crispy and golden brown.

Malpua

Malpua, resembling sweet pancakes, is a festive favorite. Prepare the batter by mixing flour, milk, and sugar, then cook it until golden brown. After frying, soak the malpuas in sugar syrup and serve warm, topped with chopped nuts for added flavor.
