A post-mortem report has revealed that the 31-year-old trainee doctor found murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital was likely gang-raped. Dr. Subarna Goswami, who reviewed the report, stated that the injuries and quantity of liquid found in the vaginal swab indicate the involvement of multiple perpetrators.

The victim, discovered semi-naked in a seminar room on Friday, had been throttled and smothered. The report detailed severe injuries, including broken thyroid cartilage from strangulation and “perverted sexuality” causing genital torture. Additional injuries were found on her belly, lips, fingers, and left leg.

Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, has been arrested for the crime. The brutal murder has sparked nationwide outrage and protests among doctors. The victim’s family reported her body was found with severe injuries and signs of violent struggle.
