Defending champion Neeraj Chopra clinched the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw at the Olympics, while Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem secured gold with a record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters. Chopra, who threw 89.45 meters, became the first Indian track-and-field athlete to win two consecutive Olympic medals.
In an interview, Chopra acknowledged Nadeem’s exceptional performance, saying, “It seems God’s blessings were with Arshad today.” Despite his strong effort, Chopra’s throw fell short of Nadeem’s record-setting mark.
Chopra reflected on his experience, noting his contentment with the silver and expressing his appreciation for the crowd support in Paris, contrasting it with the empty stadiums in Tokyo.
The top throws included Grenada’s Anderson Peters with 88.54 meters and Czech Republic’s Yakub Vadlejch with 88.50 meters. Notably, Nadeem’s throw was the sixth longest in history.
Chopra’s previous record against Nadeem was flawless, but the Pakistani’s impressive performance broke that streak.
