A 72-year-old retired mechanic, Gautam Thakur, was found stabbed to death at his residence in East Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar area on Saturday morning. The police have launched an investigation into the murder.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Apurva Gupta reported that a call was made to the police control room from Thakur’s elder son, Mukesh Thakur, who informed authorities of the murder. Upon arrival at house number C-2/33, the police found Gautam Thakur dead in his bedroom, with multiple stab wounds to his abdomen.
Thakur, who had retired from MTNL in 2012, was living with his two sons and their families on the first floor of the house. The crime scene was examined by a forensic team, which took photographs and collected evidence. The body has been transferred to the mortuary at LBS Hospital, and an FIR has been registered for murder.
According to Gupta, all family members were present in the house at the time of the incident. Mukesh Thakur reported seeing two men leaving the house shortly after the murder, although this account is still being verified. The police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspects and are continuing their investigation.
