In a significant drug operation, authorities in Andover, Massachusetts, have arrested two Indian nationals after seizing over 32 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine and more than 400 kilograms of suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value exceeding $10 million.
Simranjit Singh, 28, and Gusimrat Singh, 19, from Fresno, California, were charged on July 29 with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances. The duo is alleged to have undertaken a cross-country journey to distribute these drugs.
The probe began when law enforcement identified a drug trafficking organization (DTO) in California planning to transport methamphetamine and other narcotics to Boston. Undercover agents arranged to purchase 32 kilograms of methamphetamine from a DTO member.
On the night of their arrest, Simranjit and Gusimrat Singh arrived in Andover driving a white tractor-trailer, where they were expected to deliver the drugs to undercover agents. After handing over the methamphetamine, they were immediately detained.
A search of the tractor-trailer later revealed over 400 kilograms of suspected cocaine. Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy expressed alarm at the scale of the drugs seized, commenting, “The sheer amount of drugs in this case is alarming and poses a serious threat. These defendants allegedly traveled across the country to distribute illegal narcotics in Massachusetts.”
The charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances carry severe consequences, including up to 20 years in prison, a supervised release period of three years to life, and a fine of up to $1 million.
Simranjit and Gusimrat Singh have made their initial appearances in federal court in Boston and are currently held in federal custody as the legal process continues.
