In Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, a Mahindra Bolero marked with ‘Police’ and equipped with a siren was vandalized after reportedly brushing against a ‘kanwariya’ during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. However, the Ghaziabad Police have clarified that the vehicle in question was not an official police car but a private vehicle belonging to the Power Corporation Vigilance. The driver, Avnish Tyagi, was reportedly operating the Bolero in a reserved lane at the time of the incident.
The attack occurred around 10 a.m. near the Duhai metro station. Footage from the scene shows a crowd surrounding the Bolero with sticks and baseball bats, smashing its headlights and windshields, and pushing the vehicle onto its side. The car was empty during the assault, as evidenced by the visuals.
Authorities have intervened and an investigation is underway. The driver, Avnish Tyagi, has been taken into custody, and the vehicle has been seized.
The Kanwar Yatra is a significant Hindu pilgrimage during which devotees, known as Kanwariyas, transport water from rivers to Lord Shiva temples. This sacred event, observed between July and August, involves religious rituals, fasting, and extensive travel in devotion to Lord Shiva. The tradition is said to have begun with Parshuram, a devoted follower of Shiva and an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
