The Supreme Court granted bail to AAP leader Manish Sisodia on Friday, noting he has been in custody for 17 months without a trial. The court, led by Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan, criticized the delay in proceedings and emphasized that bail should be the norm, not imprisonment.

Sisodia, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26, 2023, for alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy, and by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 9, 2023, for money laundering, will be released on a personal bond of Rs 10 lakh with two sureties of the same amount.

Sisodia had resigned from his position as Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister on February 28, 2023. His bail plea had faced opposition from both the ED and CBI.
