On Wednesday, Union Minister for Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat unveiled a meticulously restored railway coach at Gandhi Darshan, Rajghat, symbolizing Mahatma Gandhi’s pivotal train journeys during the Indian freedom struggle. Painted in brown with a ‘III’ marker indicating a third-class compartment, the coach includes a life-size sculpture of Gandhi stepping down from it.
Shekhawat emphasized the continued relevance of Gandhi’s philosophy, stating that his principles remain significant globally. The restored coach, a donation from the Ministry of Railways, is part of an exhibit celebrating Gandhi’s early travels, which played a key role in shaping his vision for a united India.
The Culture Ministry highlighted that the coach, enriched with sculptures depicting Gandhi’s interactions with fellow travelers, offers an immersive experience of his transformative rail journeys and his commitment to justice and equality.
