South Korea announced on Tuesday a travel ban for its citizens to areas near the Blue Line, the disputed border between Israel and Lebanon, effective from Wednesday. The move follows escalating violence in the region, including recent assassinations of key figures and a deadly rocket attack in the Golan Heights.
The South Korean foreign ministry has also strongly advised its nationals to leave Lebanon and Israel as soon as possible. A temporary advisory against travel to Iran will be issued in light of recent developments, including the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, which has heightened regional tensions.
The ministry warned that South Korean travelers to the restricted border areas could face penalties under the country’s passport law. Currently, over 500 South Koreans are in Israel, and around 120 are in Lebanon.
