Indian wrestler Antim Panghal and her support staff are being sent back to India following a disciplinary breach at the Paris Olympics. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) confirmed that Panghal violated rules by giving her accreditation to her sister, which allowed her sister unauthorized access to the Olympic Village. French authorities reported the incident to the IOA, leading to the decision to send Panghal and her team home.
Earlier on Thursday, Panghal was defeated by Turkey’s Zeynep Yetgil in the women’s 53 kg freestyle round of 16.
In a separate setback for Indian wrestling, Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the 50 kg women’s event for being overweight. Phogat had been set to compete in the gold medal match against Sarah Ann Hildebrandt of the United States after a semi-final win over Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez.
India has secured three bronze medals at the Paris Olympics so far, all in shooting.
