A female student at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Tiruchirappalli has reported sexual harassment in her hostel room. The incident occurred last night, involving an outsourced worker hired to address Wi-Fi issues. The worker has been arrested following the student’s complaint.
The accused allegedly flashed and misbehaved with the student while she was alone. This led to protests by NIT students, who are demanding swift action. The hostel warden, criticized for insensitive remarks, has been removed from their position.
Trichy collector Pradeep Kumar acknowledged a security lapse, emphasizing that male outsiders should not be allowed in women’s hostels without proper supervision. An FIR has been filed, and police are investigating the case. The institute has promised to implement measures to prevent future incidents.
