Early Wednesday morning, a bridge over the Kali River at Sadashivgad in Karnataka collapsed, causing significant disruptions on National Highway 66, which connects Goa to Karnataka. The collapse occurred around 1 am, when a truck fell into the river. The driver was rescued by local fishermen.
The bridge, which had been used for Goa-bound traffic since the construction of a new bridge a decade ago, was replaced by a newer structure. Following the incident, traffic on the new bridge was temporarily halted while authorities assessed its stability. Heavy vehicles were restricted from crossing, but other traffic was allowed to pass.
Karnataka officials and Goa’s Canacona police station are working together to manage the situation and ensure safety on the highway.
