India’s second Arihant-class submarine, INS Arighaat, was commissioned into the Indian Navy on August 29, 2024, in Visakhapatnam. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, present at the ceremony, highlighted the submarine’s role in strengthening India’s nuclear triad, enhancing deterrence, and maintaining regional strategic balance.
INS Arighaat features advanced indigenous technology, including systems and equipment developed by Indian scientists and engineers. It represents a significant upgrade over its predecessor, INS Arihant, and will bolster India’s underwater capabilities.
Submarines, crucial in modern naval strategy, can launch missile strikes, support amphibious operations, and execute strategic nuclear deterrence. The Arihant-class submarines, including INS Arighaat, are equipped with ballistic missiles and advanced propulsion systems, and will significantly enhance India’s maritime security and strategic reach.
