On Wednesday, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar confidently declared that India is on track to become the world’s third-largest economy within two years. Speaking at the 10th National Handloom Day, Dhankhar highlighted the importance of leveraging handlooms to support economic nationalism and address climate change.

Dhankhar emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Be Vocal for Local” initiative, which includes promoting handloom products, is crucial for economic freedom and growth. He stressed that economic nationalism is essential for the country’s development, citing benefits such as foreign exchange savings, job creation, and enhanced entrepreneurship.

He urged respect for national interests over mere fiscal gains and criticized avoidable imports. Reflecting on India’s progress, Dhankhar noted the country’s rise from having a smaller economy than cities like London and Paris to becoming the fifth-largest globally. He called on citizens to embrace and promote handloom products as a fashion statement to drive higher sales and support local industries.
