A helicopter crash occurred in Pune on Saturday, the result of strong winds and adverse weather conditions. The aircraft, an AW 139 model, had taken off from Juhu, Mumbai, and was en route to Hyderabad when it went down in the Paud area.
The helicopter, operated by Global Vectra Helicorp, was carrying four people, including the captain. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported. The captain, identified as Anand, sustained injuries and has been transported to Sadar Hospital for medical treatment.
The incident happened against a backdrop of severe weather. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued orange alerts for heavy rainfall in Pune and Satara districts of western Maharashtra. An IMD official indicated that a low-pressure area over the east-central Arabian Sea, off the Maharashtra coast, is expected to bring continued rain to most parts of the state over the next 48 hours.
This crash follows a similar incident in May, where a private helicopter carrying Shiv Sena Deputy Leader Sushma Andhare crashed on landing. The pilot in that case managed to escape unharmed.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash and assessing the impact of the weather conditions on the incident.
