Mumbai police have denied claims by Bhavesh Bhinde, director of Ego Media, that his arrest was unlawful. Bhinde, wanted in connection with the Ghatkopar hoarding collapse on May 13, which killed 17 people and injured over 70, had alleged that he was illegally detained and not provided a written “ground of arrest.”
In an affidavit submitted to the Bombay High Court, the police clarified that Bhinde was not arrested on May 16, 2024, as he claimed. Instead, he was apprehended in Udaipur on that date under a false identity and then transported to Mumbai. His official arrest occurred on May 17, 2024, at 12:40 PM.
The police stated that Bhinde was provided with a written arrest memo, detailing the grounds for his arrest, at the time of his detention. The case file was reviewed by a magistrate, who confirmed that the arrest was conducted in accordance with the law.
