Dawid Malan, former world No. 1 T20I batter for England, has announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 37. The left-handed batsman made the announcement in an interview with ‘The Times’ following his exclusion from England’s upcoming white-ball series against Australia.
Malan, one of only two England men’s players to score centuries in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, last played for England during the 50-over World Cup in India last year. He has accumulated 4,416 runs across 22 Tests, 30 ODIs, and 62 T20Is.
Malan’s international career began with a standout T20I debut in 2017 and was highlighted by a memorable 140 against Australia in the 2017-18 Ashes. He excelled in T20I cricket, becoming the top ICC T20I batsman in September 2020 and the fastest to 1,000 T20I runs by March 2021. His contribution was key to England’s T20 World Cup win in 2022, despite missing the knockout stages due to injury.
Reflecting on his career, Malan noted the intense demands of Test cricket and his greater success in white-ball formats.
