A drone attack on Rohingya refugees fleeing Myanmar has killed many dozens, including families with children, according to witnesses. The assault occurred on Monday near the border with Bangladesh, targeting families waiting to cross.
The attack, described as the deadliest recent assault on civilians in Rakhine state, left piles of bodies on the ground and prompted survivors to search for their loved ones among the dead and injured. Witnesses, including survivors and activists, have accused the Arakan Army of carrying out the attack, though the group denies involvement. Myanmar’s military and the Arakan Army have blamed each other, and the exact number of casualties remains unverified.
In addition to the drone strikes, boats carrying fleeing Rohingya sank in the Naf River, resulting in more deaths. Medecins Sans Frontieres reported treating 39 violence-related injuries, while the UN High Commission for Refugees confirmed deaths from boat capsizes but could not verify specific details.
