Students at Dhaka University in Bangladesh have rallied in support of ongoing protests over the rape and murder of a woman trainee doctor at Kolkata’s R G Kar Medical College. The demonstration, organized under the banner “Awaaz Tolo Nari” (Raise Your Voice, Women), took place at the Raju Sculpture on campus.
The students called for strict legal action and prompt justice for the victim, criticizing the medical college’s handling of the case. Rahnuma Ahmed Niret demanded maximum legal assistance and swift enforcement of the law. Anya Fahmin expressed support for global movements against rape and called for a public trial in the Sohagi Jahan Tonu case in Comilla, urging transparency, especially with military involvement.
Lamisha Jahan and Anika Arefin Anu emphasized the need for accountability and safety for women, condemning past cover-ups and highlighting the role of student activism in driving change.
The protest follows the August 9 incident at R G Kar Medical College, which has sparked widespread demonstrations in India. In Dhaka, students also held an “Occupy the Night” event, demanding a fair investigation into all rape cases in Bangladesh.
