A 12-year-old rape survivor from Ayodhya underwent an abortion at KGMU in Lucknow on Tuesday. The minor, who was 12 weeks pregnant, is reported to be in stable condition. Samples from both the fetus and the survivor have been collected for DNA testing and handed over to the investigating officer.
The decision to proceed with the abortion was made after obtaining family consent, in line with Supreme Court guidelines permitting abortions up to 24 weeks. The Chief Medical Officer and other officials referred the girl to the hospital on Monday, and her condition was assessed before the procedure.
The case involves allegations against Samajwadi Party leader Moin Khan and his servant Raju Khan. The victim, who worked at Khan’s bakery, was reportedly raped by Khan and filmed during the assault. Raju Khan is also accused of raping her. The girl’s mother claimed that the victim was threatened and that the incident was recorded and shared to prevent her from speaking out. The family discovered her pregnancy only after she fell ill and was taken to the hospital.
The case has sparked political controversy, with Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav demanding a DNA test for the victim.
