An Army officer, Captain Deepak Singh, was killed in a gunfight with terrorists in Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday. The encounter occurred during a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the forested Shivgarh-Assar belt. Captain Singh, from the Corps of Signals and on deputation with 48 Rashtriya Rifles, led a company in the operation.
The confrontation began with a brief exchange of fire near Patnitop in the neighboring Udhampur district before moving to Doda. Security forces also neutralized one terrorist, and a search for others is ongoing. Four blood-soaked rucksacks suggest that additional terrorists might have been injured.
