A landslide on the new track leading to the Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district resulted in the deaths of two women and serious injuries to a girl on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred near Panchi, three kilometers from Bhawan.
The landslide struck as the pilgrims were en route to the shrine, causing them to become trapped under an iron structure that was damaged by the falling debris. The Deputy Commissioner of Reasi, Vishesh Paul Mahajan, confirmed the fatalities and injury based on preliminary reports.
Senior police and civil administration officials were swiftly deployed to the scene. A rescue operation was promptly initiated, and the movement of pilgrims on the affected track was suspended. Further details on the incident are awaited.
This tragedy follows a previous incident on New Year’s Day 2022, when a stampede at the shrine resulted in 12 deaths and 16 injuries.
