The Union Cabinet has approved seven major agricultural projects totaling Rs 13,966 crore, aiming to advance India’s agricultural sector. Announced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the investments include:
- Crop Science for Food and Nutritional Security: Rs 3,979 crore for research, genetic improvement, and crop health.
- Agricultural Education, Management: Rs 2,291 crore to modernize agricultural education and incorporate digital technologies.
- Digital Agriculture Mission: Rs 2,817 crore to integrate AI and big data into farming practices, including farmer registries and precision farming tools.
- Sustainable Livestock Health and Production: Rs 1,702 crore to enhance animal health, dairy production, and nutrition.
- Sustainable Development of Horticulture: Rs 860 crore for developing horticultural practices and crops.
- Strengthening Krishi Vigyan Kendra: Rs 1,202 crore to support agricultural extension services.
- Natural Resource Management: Rs 1,115 crore to improve resource management for sustainable agriculture.
These initiatives follow a recent announcement of Rs 28,602 crore for 12 industrial smart cities across 10 states.
