Susan Wojcicki, a pivotal figure in Google’s history, has died after a two-year battle with cancer, Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced on Saturday. Wojcicki, who was instrumental in shaping YouTube’s growth, was remembered as a foundational leader in tech.
Pichai expressed his profound sadness on X (formerly Twitter), describing Wojcicki as a central figure in Google’s history and an incredible leader and friend. He shared his condolences, stating, “We will miss her dearly. Our thoughts are with her family. RIP Susan.”
Wojcicki was among Google’s earliest employees and was honored with the ‘Google Founders Award’ for her role in developing AdSense. As CEO of YouTube, she led the platform to global prominence, influencing millions of content creators and viewers.
Her legacy extends beyond technology to her advocacy for women in tech, serving as a role model for future leaders. Indian-American Neal Mohan succeeded her as YouTube CEO in February 2023, following her decision to step down after 25 years with the company.v
