In a bid to preserve India’s rich artisan heritage, Ankita Jaiswal, an interior designer from Lucknow, has launched Brio Art House and Café, a unique platform blending art, culture, and sustainability. Since its inception in 2017, Brio Art House has become a sanctuary for local artisans, offering them a space to showcase their traditional crafts.
Located near Kanpur Road, Brio Art House features an array of handcrafted home décor items made using techniques like Zardosi and Chikankari. The adjoining café, added in 2019, enhances the experience by offering traditional dining in eco-friendly settings, including the use of kulhads and homegrown vegetables.
Jaiswal, whose background in art began with a sculpting course at Lalit Kala Akademi, has made sustainability a core principle of her venture. She ensures that all products are crafted ethically, avoiding materials like bone china. Despite facing challenges, including the impact of COVID-19, Jaiswal remains dedicated to supporting artisans and their families.
Brio Art House has not only provided economic support but also aims to rekindle interest in traditional crafts among younger generations. By creating a personal connection between artisans and customers, Jaiswal hopes to sustain the rich cultural legacy of Indian craftsmanship.
