Ola Electric is currently in a legal conflict with MapMyIndia, whose parent company CE Info Systems has accused the electric vehicle manufacturer of unlawfully using its map data to develop its own Ola Maps. According to the legal notice from CE Info Systems, Ola Electric is alleged to have breached its licensing agreement by misappropriating MapMyIndia’s proprietary technology.
Ola Electric started utilizing MapMyIndia’s mapping services in 2022 to assist riders of its S1 Pro electric scooter. The agreement specifically forbade combining MapMyIndia’s licensed data with competitors’ products, reverse-engineering the software, or extracting source code. CE Info Systems asserts that Ola Electric violated these terms by purportedly using its APIs and software development kits to build Ola Maps.
CE Info Systems argues that Ola Electric’s claim of creating its map data from open sources is false and misleading. The company accuses Ola Electric of stealing its proprietary data and engaging in “dishonest and unlawful practices,” which it views as a breach of intellectual property rights.
Ola Electric has rejected these allegations, calling them “false and misleading.” The company maintains that its mapping technology was developed independently and reaffirms its commitment to ethical business practices. An Ola Electric spokesperson has promised a comprehensive response to the claims.
This dispute underscores the ongoing challenges in the tech industry as companies deal with complex issues surrounding intellectual property and proprietary technology.
